Course Objectives: (290.3.3.32 Music-Common Rules (1) (a) (2)).
Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:
1. Demonstrate solfege singing of simple duets in minor modes.
2. Develop and apply an understanding of conducting patterns and preparatory patterns.
3. Display working knowledge of intervals, triads, tetrads, and rhythmic elements.
4. Develop critical listening skills.
5. Recognize and transcribe rhythmic and tonal melodic patterns.
6. Utilize appropriate technology including but not limited to: CAI, Web materials and , Notation software, (NASM VII E) (6 of 7 Standards; TI:ME).
7. Demonstrate knowledge of standard harmonic progressions and perform these on piano.
University Attendance Policy - In registering for classes at the university, students accept responsibility for attending scheduled class meetings, completing assignments on time, and contributing to class discussion and exploration of ideas. Students will be excused for class absence for circumstances beyond the student’s control or if the student has been required to attend an activity sponsored by the university.
My Attendance Policy -Students are allowed 6 absences without penalty. Subsequent unexcused absences will result in a grade of FA. Communication is vital and is appreciated prior to your absence; if you have a problem attending class, please see me privately. All work missed must be made up.
Incomplete Work Policy – Incomplete grades are assigned at the discretion of the instructor ONLY UPON APPROVAL OF THE DIRECTOR OF THE SCHOOL OF MUSIC! You must follow Records Office policy for the removal of incomplete grades.
